Smart Phones

A smartphone is a mobile (cell) phone that offers mobile computing ability and Internet connectivity than a basic mobile or cell phone, called a ‘feature’ phone. Smartphones and feature phones may be thought of as handheld computers integrated within a mobile telephone, but while most feature phones are able to run applications based on JAVA ME platforms, a smartphone allows the user to install and run more advanced applications based on a specific platforms like Apple‘s iOS, Google’s Android, Blackberry‘s RIM OS, or Windows Mobile/7.

Smartphones can run complete operating systems providing a platform for application and their corresponding app stores like Apple‘s iTunes and Android‘s Market. A smartphone can be considered as a Personal Pocket Computer (PPC), Mobile Computing Device (MCD), or Mobile Internet Device (MID) with mobile phone functions. The difference between this and a Mac, PC, or laptop is in size and function. There are smartphones and computers that run Windows, Android, and iOS for example.
