An eReader, which is also spelled e-reader, is a digital reading device for ebooks. E-books are just like regular books, but they are digital. There are many different ereader devices such as the Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook, QUE, IREX, Alex, and Sony readers. Regardless of hardware, all of these eReaders have something in common, they all need accessories.

Accessories vs Essentials

Accessories are things that eReaders can use to enhance the experience or use of the mobile device, but they are not necessary to their functionality, whereas essentials are necessary for either standard or extended use of the device. For example, a case or a cover is nice because it can protect your ereader from scratches or spills, but it isn’t necessary for it to function. Essentials, on the other hand, like AC/wall or DC/CAR chargers, USB cables, and even lights can be very necessary depending on how and where you are using your ereader.

Types Of eReader Accessories

The most popular accessories are covers and cases, buy depending on your model you may also be able to get frames or bags for you device. Accessories come in all kinds of colors and materials from a host of different manufacturers. Specialty products such as frames and backs sometimes come
from the device manufacturers.

Cases vs Covers

Sometimes the differences between cases and covers can be confusing since some people use the terms interchangeably. In general, cases completely enclose an eReader and the device has to be removed for use. Covers on the other hand allow the user to use the eReader with the cover still attached like a book cover.

Different Types Of Cases And Covers

Cases are differentiated by how they are carried, how they fasten, and the materials from which they are made. Cases with an external strap are referred to as carrying cases. Cases can be fastened with zippers, Velcro, or buckles. Be weary of zipper cases as they can sometimes scratch your device. Covers can also be fastened in the way as cases though sometimes they are open faced like a frame.
