e-Reader Cases
E-Reader cases can come in many different materials, hard and soft, and can perform many different functions. Cases differ from covers in that the e-book reader must be removed from the case in order to be used, whereas a cover just needs opened, but both are made primarily to protect your e-reader and to add a personal touch.
Materials
Hard e-reader cases are generally made of plastic, but can also come in metal, usually aluminum, which transfers the heat out and away from the e-book reader the best. Most hard exterior cases have soft, cushioned neoprene interiors, but some may be a mesh-type material.
Soft e-book reader cases are generally made of leather or nylon, but can also be made of a softer plastic or silicone. Some e-reader cases are made of neoprene, which is the soft material wet-suits are made of and the same material used inside some hard e-reader cases as mentioned above.
Functionality
Some cases close with a zipper and some with a belt and latch. Most cases only carry the e-reader itself in order to stay thin and compact, but others have pockets to carry accessories like chargers, cables, or storage cards. There may also be enough room for a small pad of paper and a writing utensil too, depending on the case.
Interoperability
Since the nook, Kindle, and Alex readers are all about the same size, cases for them may be interchangeable, but check with the retailer before purchasing to make sure. Some cases are more form-fitting than others. The neoprene cases will stretch a bit, but the hard metal, plastic, and even some leather cases might not stretch to fit.
